What’s It Cost To Travel the World Comfortably for 6 Months?

After 178 days on the road, including traveling through seven countries and three continents, we’ve spent a total of $23,735. Our daily average for this initial time frame equates to $133 per day. We compiled this information to share with other travelers to assist with budget planning for their own round-the-world (RTW) trips.

What’s It Cost To Travel the World Comfortably for 6 Months?

Sure, we probably could have spent less, but we pride ourselves on the fact that we travel very comfortably and do extensive research to find great value for the dollar.

The above graph includes all costs from traveling to both South and North America, the Cook Islands, New Zealand, and Australia. Due to the high cost of traveling to Antarctica, it is not included in the figures above as it would misrepresent and skew the overall daily average. To provide insight into how our costs are allocated, we categorized our expenses for each country/location visited.  From this data, it’s easy to see which countries are more budget-friendly.

Location Breakout

Transportation: All costs to get to the country/location including flights, buses, ferries, taxis, gas/petrol, etc.

Excursions: All costs related to exploration/adventure travel. It usually includes a guide and a lot of fun!

Lodging, Eating-Out, Groceries, Alcohol, and Misc: Self-explanatory
