I have actually just started using Airbnb here in Australia. I think it is loosing its niche market as people on it are also on booking.com etc and prices are rising. Most places are totally seperate from the owners place too so not really in the original spirit any more ..Don’t get me wrong it is useful addition to market and I use it where it works out best for me.

Airbnb fees are higher to the hosts/guests, making the costs to reserve, generally, more than booking.com (if the apartment is listed on both). The thing we really love about Airbnb is that by contacting the host (which is a lot easier on Airbnb versus Booking.com), it is much easier to get a special rate for an extended stay.
